About Us
About HFAFHT
Health for All Family Health Team is an interprofessional primary care clinic. We provide a wide range of primary care services including acute, chronic and preventative health care. Our physicians and other health professionals have diverse areas of expertise including palliative care, geriatrics, home visits, low risk obstetrics, and global health.
We are home to a Community Care Team, an interprofessional primary care team supporting Eastern York Region health providers, community organizations, and residents.

Health for All is also the site of the Markham Family Medicine Teaching Unit (FMTU). The FMTU is a partnership between Markham Stouffville Hospital, the University of Toronto Department of Family and Community Medicine, and Health for All. This means that you may be cared for by a family medicine resident, a doctor who has received a medical degree and who practices medicine under the supervision of a fully licensed physician.
A Family Health Team is an approach to primary health care that brings together different health care providers to coordinate the highest possible quality of care for you, the patient.

Global Health
As a teaching unit, the Health for All Family Health Team site includes a Global Health curriculum to help family medicine residents become caring, culturally-sensitive physicians who understand the determinants of health.
Global Health is an interdisciplinary area of study, research, and practice that prioritizes improving health and achieving equity in health for all people worldwide. Global Health considers health to be a basic human right and recognizes that health issues transcend borders. Global Health seeks to understand the determinants of health in order to improve health for all.
Our Curriculm
Family medicine residents at Health for All have the opportunity to practice in a culturally-diverse setting and gain experience working in resource-poor areas. There are several components to the Global Health Stream:
- Global Health Certificate CourseThe Global Health Education Institute at the University of Toronto offers this course which we encourage all residents to take.
- Global Health LunchesThese lunchtime sessions cover the social determinants of health as well as other important Global Health topics.
- Resident Research ProjectWe ask family medicine residents to choose a project that is relevant to Global Health.
- Global Health SelectivesWe encourage residents to choose their selectives in areas such as HIV/AIDS, inner-city health, aboriginal healthcare, and refugee/immigrant health care.
- Health Equity ElectiveCurrently a partnership is being developed between the University of Toronto and Ethiopia. Residents will have the opportunity to do an international elective in sites where there are established partnerships.
- Academic Half DaysWe ask all academic half-day presenters to try to incorporate a Global Health perspective into their lectures.

Learning Lunches
Family medicine residents, as well as interested staff and community members, have the opportunity to join us for our Global Health Lunches. These lunches cover topics relevant to Global Health such as the social determinants of health, health equity, and culturally-sensitive practice. Their purpose is to increase understanding of the many factors that contribute to poor health and to help us to work in a culturally-diverse setting.
